European Day of Jewish Culture
Every year, usually a Sunday in September, Jewish communities in 29 European countries participate in the European Day of Jewish Culture.
Based on a common theme, which this year is Women in Judaism, participating communities open their doors for the entire day and offer a variety of activities including guided tours, lectures, conferences, concerts and food tastings.
This year the event will take place on Sunday September 14, 2014.
Initiated in 1996 by the B’nai Brith of Strasbourg in the French département Bas Rhin and gradually extended across Europe, this event aims to raise awareness of Jewish culture, which is often unknown, and has at times been at risk of disappearing in various countries.
On this day, the public is invited to discover the artistic and cultural Jewish heritage in all its richness, its history, rituals and traditions.
